Tim Horjus: Solo Exhibition. March 9, 2013 from 5:30pm until 7:30pm.

In his first large-scale, solo exhibition in Baltimore, Timothy Horjus presents work that evokes our current social and cultural reality by using the language of modernism in conjunction with traditional references to discuss our reliance on digitally-produced and transmitted information. He states, “I am attempting to evoke…the contemporary condition. This condition is one of awkwardness. We find our technology and culture increasingly pushing us away from ‘real’ experiences in lieu of digital ones, all the while we continue to utilize our digital devices to have more ‘human’ interactions.” Horjus’ exhibition closes with a performance by Elm City Dance Collective. The dance group presents Contemporanea, a piece conceived by Lindsey Bauer – dance artist, teacher, and choreographer. The work is inspired by the Brazilian martial art of capoeira, and incorporates elements of the art form with dance and music.

A Baltimore native and former Highlandtown resident, Lindsey Bauer holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in performance and choreography from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in performance and education from Towson University.

Timothy Horjus received his M.F.A. in May, 2010 from the University of Maryland College Park where he was a recipient of both the Ann Truitt Fellowship and the David C. Driskell Teaching Award. His work has been shown extensively in the Baltimore and Washington, DC area. He balances teaching at MICA with a studio practice, running his construction company, and reveling in his family.

Closing performance Sat Apr 13, 4-5pm: Contemporanea by Elm City Dance Collective.

Let the artists do the talking

Gallery Four presents Stopgap, a solo exhibition of recent works by Baltimore artist Lisa Dillin. Through installation, sculpture, and participatory works, Stopgap explores the struggle between our animal instincts and the confines of living in a manufactured world where primitive desires are satiated; the natural world is brought inside, as water fountains become watering holes and sunshine flows from spray guns.

On Saturday, March 16th, 2013, Lisa will present a one-night only participatory work (you may want to bring a dark bathing suit in case supplies run out). Stopgap will be on exhibit through April 20th.

Gallery Four is a 10,000 sq. ft. facility featuring six live/work artist studios and a contemporary art exhibition space. Gallery Four is located in downtown Baltimore’s H&H building.
