For its 40th Anniversary, the Alexandria Museum of Art will be installing its first permanent exhibition galleries in October, 2017. Because of this and the 30th year of the September Competition, the Alexandria Museum of Art has changed the dates for the September Competition exhibit.  In 2017, the exhibition will be on display from June 2nd through September 23rd, 2017.  In 2018 and following, the September Competition exhibition will be on display for four months, from July through October.

Gormley Gallery is now accepting entries for the 28th National Drawing and Print Competitive Exhibition. This year’s juror is Nicole Buckingham Kern, Gallery Coordinator at Community College of Baltimore County.

Submission fee: $36 for up to 3 drawings or prints.

Awards: A minimum of $1,500 will be available in purchase prize awards.

Literary Opportunity for the Maryland Purple Line Light-Rail Project
Issue Date: October 27, 2016   Deadline: December 1, 2016 – 8 p.m. EDT. Qualifications only (Not proposals)

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) Project Management Consultant (PMC) is seeking literary artists to create a story/ composition/ poem/ literary work to be integrated into the design of the future Purple Line transit corridor in suburban Washington, D.C. This is a call to all types of writers who wish to be considered for this opportunity to create a story that captures the essence of the corridor and text that will be incorporated into the stations along the line. Literary artist selection will be a two-phase process: Request for Qualifications (RFQ)” and “Procurement”.
When the solicitation invites literary artists to submit proposals, those artists will be paid a stipend of up to $3500 for producing the proposals. Travel to the Maryland area is encouraged. The stipends will be intended to cover literary artist costs associated with writing approximately 600 to 1000 words and travel.

The Artist in Residence program offers professional artists of all kinds the opportunity to pursue their art in the premier wilderness setting of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve.  Writers, composers, two and three-dimensional visual artists, photographers, digital artists, filmmakers, and artisans are all encouraged to apply.

The residency lasts approximately two weeks.  This includes several days in Bettles, Alaska to pack and prepare for the trip, eight days in the back country and then a few days for the artist to prepare and give a community program about their experience.   The artist will accompany park staff on a working back country patrol in July, August or early September and will be expected to participate in the working aspects of the patrol.  Patrols may accommodate the artist to a certain extent, but artists must be both physically fit enough to attempt such a journey and also possess the skills and experience for extended rigorous wilderness travel.

Kahlon is looking for Baltimore based black and brown artists to participate in an upcoming exhibition entitled Proximity to Dead Skin. This show will be the second installment of Kahlon: The Cut Up series and will take place at EMP Collective on February 4th, 2017. This exhibition will showcase artists working in performance, video, and new genres.

We asking press, creative leaders, and creative institutions in Baltimore to spread the word about this open call on their platforms and forward this email to other networks you think will have an interest in this. In this exhibition we arrive at the Proximity to Dead Skin as a way to describe a daily existence. Living as the other in corrupted and spoiled environments; the distance to the end or the beginning–the dead skin–tends to be closer to us. This proximity within itself, is a ring that we inhabit that is not of death, but is living on the edge of a very specific brink, in which our lives could be ended due to forces or systems outside of our control. How does one react to such a circumstance?
