The eighth annual Free Fall Baltimore returns on October 1 through October 31, 2013!

During the city-wide arts celebration, Baltimore City arts organizations present hundreds of FREE arts activities including dance, music and theater performances, art exhibitions, free admission to museums, walking tours, festivals and workshops.

The Grant Application is for organizations with operating budgets under $300,000 that wish to apply for a Free Fall Baltimore grant.  2013 Grant Application  Due: Friday, June 28

Backpack Jax and KLP, two hip-hop groups from Nantes in Western France, will present their new show featuring an explosive mix of breakdance and soulful music within the framework of the Alliance’s Urban Corps transatlantic hip-hop-festival that takes place in Washington, D.C. from 12 to 18 May 2013.

In this new artistic collaboration Backpack Jax brings the music whilst KLP delivers the moves. For the first time, the French-Iraqi and Cuban-American singing duo Backpack Jax partners with the French dance crew KLP for a high-energy performance full of explosive movements and sound.

Backpack Jax and KLP will be supported by TSU (Team Squad Up), a Baltimore-based dance company specialized in dancing to Baltimore house and club music, who will be the opening act for their new French friends.

Baltimore artists are encouraged to attend the Mind Your Business: Homeownership Opportunities for the Creative Leaders of Baltimore’s New Economy, sponsored by PNC Bank. The information session is offered to ensure that Baltimore City’s cultural citizens have access to home buying resources, as part of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s goal of growing Baltimore by 10,000 families in the next 10 years.

The symposium covers incentives to buying a house in Baltimore, obtaining a mortgage, using a realtor, the Vacants to Value Program, tax benefits to buying and working in a home and buying a home in one of the city’s three Arts & Entertainment Districts.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts announces the finalists for the eighth annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize. The finalists are Gabriela Bulisova, Larry Cook, Caitlin Cunningham, Nate Larson, Louie Palu and Dan Steinhilber. The competition awards a $25,000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Greater Baltimore region. The Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize is held in conjunction with the annual Artscape juried exhibition and produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts in partnership with the Walters Art Museum and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). The competition winner is announced during an award ceremony and reception on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 7pm at the Walters Art Museum, located at 600 North Charles Street.
