The City of Emeryville, CA has issued a Request for Qualifications to solicit applications from teams comprised of artists, lighting designers, and landscape architects to:

1) design, fabricate and install a multi-media public art installation incorporating a lighting component and other artistic elements on the Shellmound/Powell Street Bridge and the nearby public right-of-way areas and,

2) provide two written documents that suggest themes, locations, and unified concepts for art installations and landscape improvements on both adjacent private property and public rights of way.

The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, in partnership with Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), seeks an artist or artist team to develop site-specific artwork for the 23rd Avenue improvement project. The artwork will be located along the 23rd Avenue arterial corridor extending from John Street to Jackson Street.

The selected artist or artist team will begin design work immediately after selection in early January 2014 and deliver a final design proposal by June 2014. Construction of this project is scheduled to begin in fall 2014.

The Port’s Bayview Gateway Project will create a new one acre public open space along the southern bank of Islais Creek in San Francisco’s south east waterfront. The Port of San Francisco in consultation with the community has determined that this site offers an opportunity for a large scale permanent signature artwork, which will represent the entry to the Bayview neighborhood. Artists and artist teams are invited to apply to be considered for the project opportunity.

For Immediate Release Highlandtown Arts District Creative Placemaking Call for Entries The Creative Placemaking workshops of Highlandtown, sponsored by the Southeast CDC, The Creative Alliance, and Banner Neighborhoods, has generated a list of potential capital improvements for the Highlandtown community. The goal of these soon to be completed projects is to develop positive “public places created by the people for the people.” The Highlandtown Arts District seeks artists to bring this mission and these projects to fruition. High Grounds Mural Project Project Description: This project is a paid, public art opportunity with a total project budget (materials and artist fees) of $7,500. The building is located at the corner of East and Eastern Ave in Baltimore, MD. The building owner seeks a bright and lively design, relevant to the location being a nexus of socialization to the community. Selection and Application Process The selection committee, made up of members of the Highlandtown Arts District’s (ha!) Steering Committee and the Southeast CDC, will be judging entries on artistic merit, experience, and relevance to the goals of the project. The committee will present up to three finalists’ proposals to the building owner for final approval. Layered between memory, love, loss and hope, D’Agostino employs a wide range of media, including resin, plaster, oil paint, wood and fiberglass in her work. The work is often intuitive with a recurring theme of gender identity that is explored in multiple ways. D’Agostino’s multidisciplinary approach to art making yields work that is emotionally impactful and illuminating, and shines a lovely light on identity and gender in a way that reminds us that we are all human first.

It is easy to just hope the companies we patronize are using our money and support for good. In this solo installation by Lotta Art 2013 Best in Show winner Nancy Daly, viewers are urged to investigate the unanticipated effects of blind participation by placing them in a situation wherein aesthetic choices made by individuals will determine where the artist’s money goes. Nancy Daly pledges to donate percentages of her yearly charity donation to over 50 charities and organizations based on data obtained from the piece.
