Station North Arts and Entertainment District is pleased to announce Season II of its Community Supported Art (CSA) project. Based on the same concept as Community Supported Agriculture, the Station North CSA will provide participating shareholders with the freshest art that Baltimore has to offer. We’ve assembled a jury of Station North art celebrities to select artists to produce work for the second season.

At each presentation event (see below for dates), 4 CSA artists will give short presentations on their work and shareholders will rank their preferred artists. Ranking is used to ensure that shareholders aren’t getting a box full of kale at pick-up when they’d rather have beets. These events are also an opportunity to network, mingle, and meet CSA artists.

The goal of the Station North CSA is to create an engaged community of local arts supporters by establishing relationships between gallerists and local patrons and creating an exciting new model of art support and distribution. Shareholders will each receive work from 6 of the 12 participating artists in their track; art distribution will be determined by shareholders’ preferences.

Pyramid Atlantic is seeking out artists and artists collectives interested in month long shows in our fabulous gallery beginning August 1 of 2014.

Exhibits in all media and disciplines will be considered.

Pyramid Atlantic will supply event postcards and pay for wine for the reception.

Franz and Virginia Bader Fund Grants for Artists 2014

Bader Fund grants are intended to provide visual artists with financial assistance to allow them to concentrate on their art. Minimum award size is $15,000. In 2013, the Fund made four awards totaling $65,000.

To be eligible for consideration for an award, you must be a visual artist, work in any medium except film, video, and performance, be 40 years of age or older, and live within 150 miles of Washington, DC.

Applications must be postmarked no later than September 15, 2014.

PRINCE GEORGE’S SAMPLER
Over the past decade, Prince George’s County Maryland has built on its long history of cultivating the arts to become home to many of our region’s top artists. As the M-NCPPC’s annual juried exhibition of county artists returns to the Brentwood Arts Exchange, Prince George’s Sampler celebrates the diversity and richness of art in the county by presenting artwork in all media. We’re not asking artists to fit to a theme or a form – bring us what you most want to show. The show is open to work in 2-D, 3-D, video, sound, installation, and performance art.

ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to all artists and curators who are 18 years of age or older who live, work, study, or have a studio in Prince George’s County, Maryland

JUROR – MYRTIS BEDOLLA
Myrtis Bedolla is founding director of Galerie Myrtis, a contemporary fine art gallery located in Baltimore, Maryland. She possesses over 20 years of experience as an advisor to private and institutional collectors in the acquisition and sale of fine art; and provides professional curatorial services, lectures and educational programming to corporate, civic and arts organizations.  She is the recipient of the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship, African Language Institute, Shona Language and Culture, from Michigan State University; holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, University College, and received her curatorial training at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.  As cultural liaison for the embassies of Ghana, Haiti, Mali, Republic of Georgia and Zimbabwe; Ms. Bedolla uses art to encourage cultural exchange and awareness.

APPLICATION
Applications may be submitted by mail or delivered in person and must arrive at the Brentwood Arts Exchange no later than 5pm on Saturday, September 6, 2014. We are not able to accept applications by email. Each application should include a CD/DVD containing:
• 3-5 images of artworks to be considered; OR 3-5 segments of audio and/or video, each no longer than five minutes in duration; OR an appropriate combination of images, video, audio and web-based work not to exceed 5 artworks.
• Artists submitting images of three-dimensional artwork may include up to 2 extra images as details or alternate views of the 3-5 artworks included in the application.
• A list of works/images that includes titles, media, size, and dates created. •  An artist’s statement relevant to the artwork submitted.
• A résumé or Curriculum Vitae.
• (optional) An SASE for the return of materials. Materials will not be returned unless an SASE with adequate postage is provided.

CERAMIC ARTISTS NEEDED TO CREATE

BALTIMORE-THEMED WORK FOR MAYORAL GIFTS

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and Baltimore Clayworks are seeking ceramic artists to create artwork to be used as ceremonial gifts by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.  The design of the work should be an artistic representative of Baltimore City and symbolize recognizable and meaningful city images.  The gifts will be given to dignitaries and other officials visiting Baltimore and the Mayor’s Office.

“We recognize that one of the duties of the Mayor is to provide ceremonial gifts and a great way of showing off Baltimore’s talented arts community is by providing a uniquely designed piece of art,” said Bill Gilmore, Executive Director of the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.  “This project is a wonderful opportunity for an artist and will really spotlight his or her creative vision.”

As a project partner, Baltimore Clayworks, a nonprofit ceramic arts center, will work with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and the Mayor’s Office to review the submissions.  In addition, sponsors and supporters for the project are being sought.

The application deadline is Tuesday, September 30, 2014.  The work must be completed by January 2015.  Artists will be compensated for their work.  Full details and applications can be found HERE.

The City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art Program and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) announce a competition to commission three site-specific artworks by three different artists or artist teams at PHL Terminals D, E, and F. The commissions will take place as part of PHL’s continued restroom renovation project, with each of the projects occupying a pre-designated wall space its respective concourse outside of the restrooms. Project budgets range from $25,000-$44,000 per project.

In order to best meet the needs and expectations of the Airport’s 30 million annual passengers, PHL is continuing its restroom renovation project that will greatly enhance its ability to efficiently connect travelers to their destinations as well as provide innovative and world-class amenities. A major feature of this project is the overall sense of aesthetic including the architecture, interior design, and fine art—all components that will enrich the public’s Airport experience and continue to make PHL a choice destination for travelers. PHL and the City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art Program encourage artists to propose works that respond directly to the characteristics of the specified site and will enrich the public’s experience at the Airport.

ELIGIBILITY
This competition is open to artists and teams who reside in the United States. The City of Philadelphia reserves the right to determine additional artist eligibility requirements.
