Bethesda Film Fest Call for Entry

Eligibility
Up to five films will be selected to be shown. A film by a young filmmaker, under the age of 18, may also be chosen. Filmmakers whose films are selected will receive an honorarium of $500. Short (5-30 minutes), documentary films by filmmakers from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia will be considered. Films must have been completed within the last two years. All topics are eligible. Filmmakers will be invited to attend the film festival screening and speak about their work.

Deadline
DVD entries must be submitted by Monday, Jan. 12, 2015. This is not a postmark deadline. Notification of the selection panel’s decision will be sent in January.
The selection panel will choose up to five documentaries to screen at the Bethesda Film Fest.

Submission Guidelines

  • Entries may be submitted on DVD and include a completed application form.
  • Entries may also be submitted online.
  • DEADLINE: Entries must be received by Jan. 12, 2015.
  • Films must be between 5 and 30 minutes in length.
  • Make sure the film can be easily identified on the DVD menu.
  • Films with non-English dialogue must be submitted with English subtitles.

Rights
The Bethesda Film Fest will not be held responsible if copyrighted materials or unauthorized materials are included in the film. It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to secure proper permission from the copyright holder of music, stock footage, or any other material which could violate another entity’s copyright or exclusive use of the material.

Bethesda Fine Arts Festival Call for Entry

The Bethesda Fine Arts Festival features 130 booth spaces. The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District advisory committee will select the artists. All original fine art and fine craft is eligible to apply. All work must be created by the artist; no manufactured or mass produced work is eligible. All artists must provide their own white tents and weights.

The MFA (Maryland Federation of Art) invites all artists residing in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico to enter its 5th annual Focal Point, an open-juried all-photography competition. Following exhibition guidelines, any original 2-D or 3-D work created in any form of photography, other than video, will be considered. Exhibiting concurrently is the juried work of the Chesapeake Woodturners. Works selected will be on exhibit at MFA’s Circle Gallery, 18 State Circle, Annapolis, Maryland from February 26 to March 28, 2015. The exhibition chair is John Coder.

Maximum Size: 72 inches any direction
Juror: Diana Bolz, arts editor of Moment magazine, former arts editor Smithsonian magazine

MARYLAND’S PURPLE LINE SEEKS ARTISTS FOR ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS

The Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) General Engineering Consultant Team (GEC) seeks artists to create enhancements for the future Purple Line light rail project. The Purple Line, expected to be operational in 2020, will connect Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland, USA.

Artists are being asked to submit applications by Friday, November 14, 2014 at 8PM EST to be considered for future opportunities along the Purple Line. This Call to Artists is open to all professional artists with working status in the U.S., preferably with public art experience.

Approximately 21 locations have been identified as Art-In-Transit opportunities, including fences, railings, ground planes, feature walls, retaining walls, bridges, tunnel portals, wayfinding pylons, and surfaces of station canopies and windscreens. Commissions could range from $5,000 to $500,000 for a total of $12 million.

The Procurement phase of artist selection is expected to begin in 2015, with a competitive interview or proposal process for each opportunity. Artists who are invited to submit proposals will be offered a stipend commensurate with the scope of the project and the proposal requirements.

Artists will be asked to work with the communities along the corridor to create artwork that highlights the cultural vitality of the region, and reflects the artistic, cultural and/or historical interests of the surrounding communities.

BALTIMORE SCREENWRITERS CELEBRATES 10th ANNIVERSARY

ENTRY DEADLINE JANUARY 20, 2015 

Calling all screenwriters!  The Baltimore Film Office is now accepting entries for the 10th annual Baltimore Screenwriters Competition.  Applicants can submit in the feature or shorts categories.  The top three entries in both categories win cash prizes, all access passes to the 2015 Maryland Film Festival, and passes to local movie theaters.  The deadline for submission is Tuesday, January 20, 2015 by 5pm.  An application and guidelines are available online at www.baltimorefilm.com.  The competition is designed to create awareness of screenplays as a literary art form and to encourage new screenwriters into the entertainment industry.  The Baltimore Screenwriters Competition is a project of the Baltimore Film Office at the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, in conjunction with film programs at Johns Hopkins University and Morgan State University.  Funding is provided by Morgan State University.  Additional support is courtesy of the Maryland Film Festival, NEXTCAR and Visit Baltimore.

The Baltimore Screenwriters Competition is open to all screenwriters.  Submitted scripts receive critiques by local screenwriters and producers with final screenplays judged by film industry professionals.  The 2015 judges are longtime screenwriter and UCLA Professor of Screenwriting Lew Hunter (“Fallen Angel,” “Goldie and the Boxer Go to Hollywood,” “Desperate Lives”), Emmy-winning writer Norman Steinberg (“Blazing Saddles,” “My Favorite Year”) and producer Nina Noble (“Treme,” “The Wire”).  Winners of the competition are announced during the Maryland Film Festival on Saturday, May 9, 2015. 

In the feature category, the first place winner receives $1,500, an all access pass to the 2015 Maryland Film Festival, a Weekend in Baltimore Package, a rental car for the weekend and passes to area movie theaters.  The second place winner receives $750, an all access pass to the festival and movie passes.  The third place winner receives $350, an all access pass to the festival and movie passes.  In the shorts category, winners will receive cash prizes.

BlackRock Center for the Arts is currently accepting proposals for solo, themed and group exhibitions to be presented in 2016.
