CALL FOR ENTRY: Maryland Art Place (MAP) is seeking artists for “UNDER $500” our upcoming benefit exhibition and artwork sale. Scheduled for Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12, 2015, this two-day event is intended to promote the sale of artwork by artists in the Maryland region. The exhibition will include 1-3 works by each artist with each individual piece retailing for $500 or less. Proceeds from the sale of artwork will be split 50/50 with each artist or an optional 100% donation in support of MAP.

For National or International artists:  Individual Visual Artists or Collaboratives working in any media are encouraged to apply to the Antenna: Open Call. One applicant working outside of New Orleans will be selected and awarded a solo show for the 2016 calendar year, given an honorarium of $1,000 (split amongst the group, if collaborative) paid shipping, paid travel to and from New Orleans for the install and opening of the exhibition, accommodations in Antenna’s residency space, and access to Antenna’s print facilities to publish an exhibition catalog or other similar ephemera to be determined by the artists. All national or international applications will be reviewed by a panel of current organizing Antenna Gallery members: http://press-street.org/members/

Humanities Fund for Baltimore

Both the peaceful protests and the violence in Baltimore that followed the death of Freddie Gray in police custody this past April responded to decades of structural racism and inequity in housing, education, and economic opportunities in predominantly African American communities.

The Maryland Humanities Council (MHC) believes that the equity that needs to be created here in Baltimore, and across much of the nation, can begin with the humanities. Only the humanities—especially history, the law, ethics, and philosophy—can give us the contexts for understanding and addressing these problems. And only the humanities can facilitate the conversations that will ultimately contribute to solutions. These conversations are—at their foundation—about fostering democracy at a difficult and painful time in our city and of polarization, fear, and animosity here and in the nation.

Artists are invited to submit unique or limited edition artist’s books – sculptural, book objets, altered books or book installations. Outside the Margins: Contemporary Artists’ Books, will be held in the Loyola-Notre Dame Library as a part of Baltimore Book Arts. A reception will be held in the library for Outside the Margins on Thursday, March 17. In tandem with this exhibit, Loyola presents Outside the Margins: Artists’ Books from the Betty Sweren Collection, Feb. 15 through March 20 in the Julio Fine Arts Gallery.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is now accepting applications for the 2016 PNC Transformative Art Prize!  The award grants up to $30,000 to Baltimore City community groups to enliven their underutilized public spaces through high-impact, community-driven public art projects. For 2016, the PNC Transformative Art Prize will build on the momentum and energy of the inaugural Light City Baltimore festival (March 28-April 3) and invite proposals for outdoor lighting and projection works of art. Community groups are asked to partner with artists and/or arts organizations to propose and design a transformative art concept for their neighborhood.
