Gallery CA  Join The Feminist Art Project – Baltimore for our first event, Speak Up at Gallery CA! Speak Up is an evening of spoken word and funny, heartfelt ruminations featuring “The Slam Up Tour”. Doors Open at 6:00 pm, Open Mic at 6:15 and Slam Up goes on at 7:30 pm. This event is FREE! Speak Up will also include work by Baltimore artists; including a performance piece by Katie Duffy and video pieces by Tiffany Black, Allana Clarke and Danisha Harris.

Maryland Art Place Light Touch, Exhibition Dates: February 12 – June 22, 2014. Public Reception: March 5, 11-3pm, International Pier of The Baltimore Washington Airport. Light Touch includes artwork by five artists who use photography to explore aspects of the physical world. The presenting artists are: Chrystal Lebas (UK), Heidi Morstang (UK), Marja Pirila (Finland), Lynn Silverman (Baltimore), and Frank Hallum Day (Washington, DC) and is produced in partnership with UK curator, Liz Wells, The Society of Photographic Education Conference 2014 (Baltimore City,) and Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Airport.

Pinebox Art Center FEB. 17-19…CoHosts: Nick Cave & Pinebox Art Center. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of The Contemporary and their new collaborative speaker series “CoHost,” Pinebox will be co-hosting a 3-day residency and lecture of Chicago based artist Nick Cave!!

Selected works on view January 22 – February 22.  Amalie Rothschild Gallery January 24 – February 8, 2014 Reception:  Friday, January 24, 5:30 – 7:30 pm In collaboration with Johns Hopkins, the Creative Alliance hosts a Black History Month Competition featuring works by East Baltimore public school students.  Students from kindergarten through twelfth grades create mixed-media works to depict the history of African Americans specific to Baltimore City. Fight or Flight February 8 – March 22, 2014 Reception:  Saturday, February 8, 5:30 – 7:30pm Fight or Flight showcases all new artwork by Alessandra Torres and Katie Pumphrey, created over the course of their respective three-year residencies at the Creative Alliance. The exhibition explores themes of confrontation, reflex, competition, territory, instinct, interaction, and personal space.

Baltimore Artist Roundup: Getting Out

A number of Baltimore artist have or will be having exhibitions of their work in New York, California, Washington DC and more! Feel free to contact us if you have something coming up!

Mina Cheon will be having a solo show of her work, Choco Pie Propaganda, at Ethan Cohen Gallery in New York, January 23 – February 28, 2014. Opening reception Thursday, January 23, 6 – 8pm.

Ben Piwowar will be showing work at ArtPlace, in New Haven, CT, Friday, February 7, 2014-Saturday, March 22, 2014, in a show called Smart Painting,  curated by John O’Donnell.

Alex Ebstein will be in Implicit Horizon, at Mixed Greens in New York, in February and March, 2014.

Nate Larson recently unveiled a public art project with United Photo Industries in Brooklyn, featuring his Geolocation project, made in collaboration with Marni Shindelman of Athens, Georgia.

Ryan Hoover, Magnolia Laurie, Amanda Burnham, and Rosemary Liss are among the artists showing in The Land Has Many Parts, at the Jane Deering Gallery in Santa Barbara, CA, January 15 to February 15, 2014.

Mary Anne Arntzen will be showing at the art galleries at Salisbury University, in Colors and Things, February 6 – March 29, 2014, Opening Reception: Thursday, February 6, 6 p.m.

Gary Kachadorian will be showing work at Artisphere in Arlington, VA. Progress Report and Backgrounds will be up January 15 to February 16. He will also be showing at Open Source Gallery in Brooklyn this February in a group show called Fuse-Works: Some Assembly Required.

Marian Glebes will be showing work at the Atkins Arboretum in Ridgely, MD, April 1 to May 30, 2014, with an opening reception Saturday, April 19 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Open Space’s Call for Submissions: Prints and Multiples Fair V

Open Space is pleased to announce an open application for the Fifth Annual Publications and Multiples Fair, taking place March 7-9 at the D Center (16 W North Avenue) in Baltimore, MD.

We are seeking independent publishers and artists working in multiple (books, prints, sculpture, music, video, etc), who will have the opportunity to display and sell work to an audience of viewers, artists, gallery owners, collectors, and librarians over the course of the weekend. This celebration and survey will be accompanied by related lectures and programs. Last year’s fair featured over 60 vendors, two days of programming, and a sweep of related art events. While keeping a focus on publications and multiples, we’re aiming to grow this weekend into a citywide function celebrating the work of the artists and spaces who contribute to our art community and beyond.

The deadline for applications is February 5th, and vendors will be notified of selection February 10th. Due to limited space, not all vendor requests will be accepted. Fill out the online form here to submit your application, and direct any questions to openspacebaltimore@gmail.com
