Feast

Food is the subject of endless books, news reports, scientific studies, social media posts, and conversations. We are deeply interested in its sustainability, production, processing, distribution, scarcity, quantity, quality, composition, and price. This show invites artists to explore these and other food-related issues, from the profound to the ridiculous. The goal is to create a rich and varied exhibit that honors the complexity of our relationship with food. All media welcome; small to large-scale installations; new media encouraged; indoor and outdoor works accepted; cash awards.

The exhibit will be installed in the spacious Main Gallery of Annmarie’s award-winning Arts Building. With over 4000 sq ft of exhibition space, moveable walls, high ceilings, tile floors, an Arakawa hanging system, Internet access, and electric outlets located in the walls, floor and ceiling, the Main Gallery can accommodate all sizes and types of installations. As Annmarie includes a thirty acre sculpture garden, a few outdoor works will also be included in the exhibit.

All media types are welcome; small to large scale; indoors and outdoors. The exhibition is open to artists age 18 and older working in the U.S. Video entries must be submitted on DVD, playable on QuickTime or RealPlayer, and no more than 20 minutes in length. DVD or computer based works must be exhibited on equipment provided by artist. Internet access is available. Bases and pedestals must well-balanced and sturdy. Annmarie has a limited number of bases, please inquire if you think your work will require one. All frames must be simple in design and ornamentation, preferably black or silver. All works to be hung on the wall must arrive with hanging hardware pre-installed.

The exhibit will be juried by a 1-2 member panel; typically, one member of the panel is drawn from the Smithsonian Institution. Artists will be selected based on skill, technique, and originality.

The deadline to apply is August 15, 2014. Artists will be notified of final acceptance status via email on or before August 29, 2014.

This year’s Baltimore Theatre Community Annual Auditions are back, and we hope better than ever.

We have selected the dates of Saturday, August 23, and Monday August 25.

Center Stage – The Head Theater 700 N. Calvert Street Baltimore, MD 21202

AEA Members – FREE / Non-Members $10 Auditors – $20 per theater**

Auditions will be held from 10 am-5 pm on Saturday, August 23, and from 6 pm to 9 pm on Monday, August 25, in The Head Theater (4th floor) at Center Stage. On Saturday, there will be a musical accompanist from 12pm-1pm and 2pm-3pm for anyone wishing to sing as part of their audition.

As you know, these auditions have always been an important opportunity for both the theaters and the artists involved.  With so many artistic leaders and actors participating, it’s always a wonderful time for new talent to be discovered, and to discover new opportunities.

We are seeking actors of all ages, both non-AEA and AEA, from around the state to audition. And we hope to have over 40 Auditors from local and regional theatres.

You can register online now at http://baltimoreauditions2014.eventbrite.com.

Also, if you would be interested in volunteering to support the auditions, do let us know! There will be a call for help sorting headshots, timing auditions, setting up food, etc.

Please help us promote! We have less turnaround time this year than in the past, so we need your help to get the word out, and make these auditions a huge success.  We encourage you to share the event on social media, email it to your members, and help us spread the word!

Sponsored by NICHE magazine, the NICHE Awards program began in 1989 to celebrate excellence and innovation in American and Canadian fine craft. Artists are recognized in both professional and student divisions.

Nearly 2,000 entries are received each year from professional and student craft artists from across the U.S. and Canada. Each year, a prestigious panel of judges is selected by the editors of NICHE magazine, including gallery owners, guild and museum directors, curators, craft industry experts and arts advocates.PicMonkey-Collage2.png-1024x409[1]

After the judging process is complete, and counts are tallied, the top-scoring pieces—5 in each category—become NICHE finalists. Out of these five, the highest-scoring piece in each category wins the NICHE award.

Winners are announced at a special ceremony held during the American Made Show in January.

Winners will receive an awards certificate, trophy, a listing on the NICHE Awards website and a listing in NICHE magazine.
