The Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, Visit Baltimore, Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts and What Works Studio invite members of the tech and innovation community to a Light City Baltimore information session/charette on Wednesday, March 11 at 11am, at Betamore (address: 1111 Light Street, 4th floor).  This is an opportunity to learn more about the vision for Light City and give your input to help shape and create a festival that accurately reflects the innovation scene in Baltimore.  Attendees must RSVP to khalford@greaterbaltimore.org by Tuesday, March 10 at noon.  Please note that this charette will focus strictly on the festival’s tech expo, conference and innovation components; charettes on other topics to be announced soon.

Brine is a Johns Hopkins University student run arts and culture blog based in Baltimore. This publication was founded through a Mellon Arts Innovation Grant and a partnership with BmoreArt. Brine Senior Editors are Cara Ober and Jack Livingston of BmoreArt.

Best in Show: $3,000 prize and a solo exhibition at Silvermine Arts Center.

The jurors have, at their discretion, an additional $4,000+ in cash awards.

Taking place in the Baltimore Region in fall 2015, the New Day Campaign is an arts-based initiative to challenge stigma associated with behavioral health conditions. Multiple exhibitions and events illuminate stories promoting compassion, empathy, and understanding—all with the vision of making the world a more healing place.

On Thursday, March 19, 6:15-7:30pm, Brunn Studios will be holding an Information Session on the New Day Campaign. At this gathering – primarily aimed at the arts and cultural communities – we will share three important ways to become involved: 1) we will announce an “open call” submission process for artists, writers, and performers to submit pieces and proposals to become part of the New Day Campaign, with a deadline in early June, 2015; 2) we will describe how those who lead or teach art workshops or classes might take on New Day Campaign related themes, with the results submitted for consideration to be included; and 3) we will describe how through your own programming you can become an “affiliate” of the New Day Campaign, receiving promotion from our campaign efforts. The meeting takes place at BOPA’s offices at 10 East Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD 21224. RSVP to peter@bruunstudios.com is not required, but preferred.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts is seeking interested chalk/street artists and/or artist teams to submit proposals for an Artscape 3D chalk art project. Final project must be a maximum 15’ X 15’ and the subject matter must be water-themed, as “Water” is the theme for Artscape this year. The chosen artwork must be created on the Artscape site in two days and be available for photo opportunities during the weekend of Artscape, July 17 – 19, 2015. Please submit 10 examples of previous work and your costs.

Artscape is America’s largest free arts festival, attracting 400,000+ attendees over three days. Artscape features 150+ fine artists, fashion designers and craftspeople; visual art exhibits on and off-site, including exhibitions, outdoor sculpture, art cars, photography and the Janet & Walter Sondheim Prize; incredible live concerts on outdoor stages; a full schedule of performing arts including dance, opera, theater, film, experimental music and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; family events such as hands-on projects, demonstrations, competitions, children’s entertainers and street theater; and a delicious, international menu of food and beverages that is available throughout the festival site.
