Opportunities for Artists

The City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture administers competitions to select artists to create artwork for selected capital improvement projects. When available, notices about these competitions will be posted to this web page and advertised in the media.

Mission Trails Regional Park Equestrian and Multi-Use Staging Area Public Art Project

Art Budget: Approximately $60,000.

Eligibility: Any artist or artist team authorized to work in the U.S.

Non-mandatory pre-submittal meeting: Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 8:30 AM at Executive Complex, 14th Floor Large Conference Room, 1010 Second Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101.

Application Due Date: Friday, December 4, 2015, 4:00 PM PST.

The City of San Diego is seeking applications from interested qualified artists to provide public art services for Mission Trails Regional Park Equestrian and Multi-Use Staging Area Public Art Project. An artist or artist team is sought to design, fabricate and transport permanent, site-specific artwork(s) for Mission Trails Regional Park Equestrian and Multi-Use Staging Area and consult during installation of artwork(s) at the site by the City.

North University City Fire Station 50 Public Art Project

Art Budget: Approximately $150,000.

Eligibility: Any artist or artist team authorized to work in the U.S.

Non-mandatory pre-submittal meeting: Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 9:15 AM at Executive Complex, 14th Floor Large Conference Room, 1010 Second Avenue, San Diego, CA 92101.

Application Due Date: Friday, December 4, 2015, 4:00 PM PST.

The City of San Diego is seeking applications from interested qualified artists to provide public art services for North University City Fire Station 50 Public Art Project. An artist or artist team is sought to design, fabricate and transport permanent, site-specific artwork(s) for North University City Fire Station 50 and consult during installation of artwork(s) at the site by the City.

Full RFQs: The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for each public art project may be downloaded from the following PlanetBids website: http://www.planetbids.com/portal/portal.cfm?companyID=17950. When you arrive at the PlanetBids website click “Bid Opportunities” to find the Mission Trails Regional Park Equestrian and Multi-Use Staging Area Public Art Project and North University Fire Station 50 Public Art Project opportunities.

Artists that have not previously registered through the City of San Diego for PlanetBids must register prior to downloading the RFQs. It is also important to download the documents to become an official RFQ holder. You must be a registered RFQ holder to receive addenda.

To register on PlanetBids:

  • Read the Vendor Registration instructions carefully.
  • Create a user name and password.
  • Have your federal tax ID # or your SSN available.
  • Select your Business Category: 96104 Artists (including Digital Artists).
  • Receive an email from PlanetBids confirming successful registration.
