Maryland Art Place (MAP), in partnership with The CyberWire is pleased to announce an open ‘Call to Artists’. As an extension of MAP’s annual IMPRINT Project, MAP is working with The CyberWire to offer a unique opportunity to female visual artists of the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. Collectively, MAP and The CyberWire wish to acquire and possibly commission, time permitting, plus license the image of a work of art. The image of that artwork will be reproduced in a limited edition and presented to the guests of The CyberWire’s 4th Annual Women in Cyber Security reception on October 17, 2017.

Call for Artists: EnterpRISE at Open Works

Open Works is excited to officially open the call for entries for the inaugural round of EnterpRISE at Open Works, a pitch competition aimed at finding the next great product or manufacturing business in Baltimore!

We have built a simple application process and lined up a terrific, experienced, and diverse panel of judges with the express goal of attracting a broad range of applicants.

The application landing page is live on our website here. Submissions are due by September 8th; the first round of pitches will take place on Friday, September 22nd. That event will be free and open to the public.

The District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and statements of interest from individual artists, designers or art/design teams for a ceiling treatment to be produced in conjunction with the modernization of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial (Central) Library, at 901 G St. NW. This is an opportunity to design a signature visual feature of the Library’s Grand Reading Room, drawing upon the Library’s vast Special Collections archive of D.C. history. Applicants are asked to submit samples of past work, along with a statement of interest that explains the relevance of past work to this opportunity, by August 31, 2017. From this application, a professional Review Panel will award stipends to a group of semifinalists who will develop full proposals this fall. This call is open to applicants 18 or older; must be available for intermittent meetings in Washington, D.C. during 2018 and to oversee installation in 2019.

Traveling from throughout Maryland and the surrounding region to visit the studios of artists in Baltimore, visitors get a chance to meet the artist, see their work and a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their working processes. Artists and artist collaborative groups are encouraged to apply to have an installation featured in the 2018 BGE Light Art Walk during the third annual Light City, Saturday April 14 through Saturday, April 21, 2018. Central to Light City along Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the BGE Light Art Walk features large-scale illuminated artworks including but not limited to installations, sculptures, projections, interactive technologies, performance-based works and more. For 2018, 20-30 installations are being sought to receive funding between $5,000 and $75,000.

Call for Artists: Public Art Project (Philadelphia)

The City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art Program, through the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) announces an $80,000 competition to commission a site-specific artwork for the new City Archives facility. This commission is part of the $4 million City Archive relocation project by the City of Philadelphia Department of Records.
The City Archives serves as the permanent repository for the City’s extensive collection of local historical and cultural records. The enormous collection uniquely documents Philadelphia’s history through objects, documents, rare maps, photographs, architectural plans, tax records, and much more. Some treasures of the collection include: the original 1701 William Penn City of Philadelphia Charter; the first volume of the City Council Minutes, from 1704; original signatures of Benjamin Franklin; and a variety of documents, maps, and images dating from the 18th century.

Call for Artists: 2017 Municipal Art Society Artist Travel Prize

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, Inc. (BOPA) is proud to announce the second edition of the Municipal Art Society of Baltimore City Artist Travel Prize, sponsored by the Municipal Art Society of Baltimore City (MASOB). The Municipal Art Society of Baltimore was founded in 1899 as part of the City Beautiful movement. It is one of only two remaining societies to be operating under its original charter “to provide sculptural and pictorial decoration and ornaments for the public buildings, streets and open spaces in the City of Baltimore, and to help generally beautify the City.” Artistic contributions to the City span more than one hundred years. In 2016 the MASOB embarked on a path to provide new opportunities to Baltimore artists and art places within the City. This prize will award $6,000 to a visual artist or visual artist collaborators, living in Baltimore City. Successful proposals will be selected from submissions that clearly articulate the artist’s reason for travel and how it relates to their work, along with support materials. The $6,000 prize is intended to function as funding for travel essential to an artist’s studio practice that an artist may not otherwise be able to afford.
